Guidelines for Authors

Outline

Journal Port Science Research (JPSR) is a refereed scholarly publication of the University of Uruk. It is an open-access, interdisciplinary, double-blind peer-reviewed journal that brings together research efforts across both experimental and theoretical dimensions of modern sciences. The journal focuses on advancing knowledge in Applied Medical Sciences, Engineering Technology and its Applications, Law, as well as Management and Economics Sciences. Through the publication of original, high-quality research articles and comprehensive reviews, JPSR seeks to contribute meaningfully to global applied research and to highlight cutting-edge achievements across these diverse interdisciplinary fields.

Manuscripts that do not comply with the following requirements will be returned to the author or rejected prior to the peer-review stage:

  • The manuscript represents original work, has not been previously published, and is not under consideration by another journal or conference proceedings.
  • The study adheres to the research ethics policies of JPSR. If human or animal subjects are involved, a dedicated “Ethics Approval” section must be included.
  • The manuscript is written in clear and acceptable English, free from grammatical and spelling errors.
  • The manuscript is prepared in accordance with the official JPSR Template.
  • All figures are of suitable quality and uploaded as separate high resolution files.
  • References are correctly formatted and numbered sequentially as they appear in the text, following the JPSR reference style.
  • Only manuscripts of sufficient quality that align with the aims and scope of the journal will proceed to peer review.
  • Submissions must strictly follow the JPSR author guidelines provided below.

Articles Types

JPSR publishes original, unpublished research articles as well as state-of-the-art review papers. The journal welcomes high-quality contributions—whether theoretical or experimental—that address gaps in existing knowledge and advance scholarly understanding. Accepted Article Types include:

  1. Original Research Article
Presents novel research findings, including theoretical frameworks, comprehensive datasets, and detailed critical analysis.
  2. Review Article
Offers a thorough overview of the current state of art on a given topic. A review article critically examines previously published studies, highlighting key findings, unresolved issues, and potential directions for future research.

Authorship

Authorship should be based on substantial intellectual contributions to the conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the research. Simply collecting data, providing technical assistance, or supervising a research group does not justify authorship. Each author must have actively participated in drafting or revising the work, approved the final version, and agreed to be accountable for its integrity. Authorship is therefore both a recognition of contribution and a declaration of responsibility for the published work. Individuals who fail to meet these requirements should not be listed as authors but can be acknowledged elsewhere. By applying transparent rules, JPSR safeguard fairness, reduce disputes, and protect the credibility of the scholarly record.

Authors are responsible for ensuring that the manuscript is accurate, original, and ethically conducted. They must disclose any conflicts of interest, funding sources, or affiliations that may influence the study. Authors should also ensure proper citation of prior work and provide access to supporting data where required. Collectively, they share accountability for the content and must cooperate in correcting errors or addressing concerns raised reviewers.

The corresponding author carries additional duties beyond those of co-authors. They serve as the primary contact with the journal throughout submission, review, and publication. They must confirm that all listed authors meet authorship criteria and that no qualified contributors have been omitted. The corresponding author also ensures transparency in reporting, responds promptly to editorial queries, and takes the lead in coordinating corrections or retractions if necessary.

Individuals who provided valuable support but do not meet authorship criteria should be recognized in the acknowledgments section. This may include research assistants, technical staff, data collectors, or colleagues who offered advice. Institutions, laboratories, or funding bodies that facilitated the research must also be acknowledged in line with funder requirements. Authors are responsible for ensuring that those named in acknowledgments have given consent to be mentioned. Transparent acknowledgment ensures credit is given fairly, while authorship remains reserved for those who accept full responsibility for the intellectual work. This separation helps maintain clarity in research contributions.

If disputes surface during or after publication, JPSR editors must handle them in line with COPE flowcharts. Editors may request written statements from all authors, seek institutional mediation, or, in severe cases, issue an expression of concern until the matter is resolved. Retraction may be necessary if misconduct such as fraudulent authorship is confirmed. Transparency and documentation are essential throughout the process to ensure fairness.

Authors are responsible for ensuring that all data and materials used in research comply with legal, institutional, and ethical requirements. Data should be made available for verification and reuse where possible, consistent with funder or institutional policies. Authors must provide clear data availability statements and respect participant confidentiality or proprietary restrictions. Intellectual honesty requires accurate and complete reporting.

When submitting a revised version of your manuscript, please upload the three files mentioned in the following table.

Peer Review and Ethics

Journal Port Science Research (JPSR) is committed to maintaining rigorous double-blind peer-review standards and upholding the integrity of the review process. Every submitted manuscript undergoes an initial evaluation by the editor to determine its relevance and suitability for the journal. Submissions may be rejected at this stage if they lack originality, contain significant scientific flaws, fall outside the journal’s scope, or require substantial language improvement.

Manuscripts deemed appropriate are forwarded by the section editor to at least three independent peer reviewers for assessment of their scientific quality. Final editorial decisions are based on the reviewers’ reports, which are shared with the authors alongside the decision. Authors should be aware that a single negative review may outweigh positive reports if it raises fundamental concerns about the study, potentially leading to rejection.

Plagiarism

All submitted manuscripts are screened using Turnitin®, an advanced plagiarism detection tool that compares the content against an extensive database of academic publications and online sources. Any manuscript found to contain plagiarism or self-plagiarism—whether identified through Turnitin® or other means—will not be considered for publication. Open-access theses are treated as published works and are included in similarity checks. Submissions that exhibit plagiarism (in whole or in part), duplication, redundant publication, or self-plagiarism will be rejected outright.

Complying with Ethics of Experimentation

Manuscripts that does not meet the ethics of experimentation appeared here will be rejected. Authors must ensure that all research reported in submitted manuscripts has been carried out ethically, responsibly, and in full compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and experimental codes of conduct. For original research involving humans, animals, plants, biological materials, protected or restricted datasets, collections, or sites, a dedicated Ethics Approval section must be included, containing the following information:

  • The name of the ethics committee(s) or institutional review board(s) that granted approval.
  • The approval reference number or ID.
  • A statement confirming that human participants provided informed consent prior to involvement in the study.

For studies involving animals, manuscripts must demonstrate adherence to recognized ethical standards of animal welfare. Specifically, authors are required to:

  • Follow all applicable international, national, and institutional guidelines for the humane treatment of animals.
  • Obtain formal approval from an ethics review committee, and report the approval details, including the committee’s name and the approval number or ID, in the Ethics Approval section.
  • Provide a clear justification for the use of animals and the choice of species.
  • Include information on housing, feeding, enrichment practices, and measures taken to minimize pain or distress.
  • Report the methods of anesthesia and euthanasia applied, where relevant.

Studies involving Humans, Animals, and Plants

For studies involving human participants, authors must confirm that the research was conducted in accordance with The Code of Ethics of the World Medical Association (Declaration of Helsinki) for experiments involving humans. Manuscripts should follow the Recommendations for the Conduct, Reporting, Editing and Publication of Scholarly Work in Medical Journals and, consistent with these recommendations, strive to include participant groups that are representative in terms of sex, age, and ethnicity. Use the terms sex and gender accurately and appropriately.

In the Ethics Approval section, authors must state that informed consent was obtained from all human participants. The privacy and confidentiality rights of participants must be protected at all times.
